Northwest Terrace
A through site study was the starting point for this unique island home. Existing landscape features and views were carefully integrated into the design of this single story home. The approach to the house follows a natural path through the woods along a beautiful old growth nurse log. The front door was inspired by the surrounding woods and carefully executed by island craftsmen. Inside the home the living spaces dramatically open to the view and seamlessly flow onto an outdoor terrace. Over time the terrace has been developed into an outdoor room. The timber frame consists of peeled log posts pulled away from the outside walls for added emphasis on the joinery. The integration of round logs with square timbers lends a pacific rim character to the place. In 2000 this home was awarded a Northwest chapter AIA award for careful integration of site and structure.
